What Type of Gabions Should You Get?

    Standard Gabions

    Standard gabions are the most common gabions used for different applications and they held together with spiral binders or hog clips.

    When installed correctly they look great and typically use 6 gauge or 9 gauge, 3"x3", steel mesh.

    Framed Gabions

    A higher level end product and mostly used for decorative installations and commercial applications, framed gabions look fantastic with crisp lines and super straight edges.

    The wire mesh is held together with angle iron and they are also more expensive than standard gabions.

Carbon Footprint

Gabion walls have been shown to have about a third of the carbon footprint of a concrete wall.


Gabion walls have a significantly lower carbon footprint than a concrete wall and only slightly higher carbon footprint than a dry stone wall.

With a 50-100 year life span (when built correctly), gabion walls can be built much taller than a dry stone wall because of the structure provided by the wire mesh baskets and other structural components that can be added to a gabion wall.
